Excursions In Year Three we will have 1 excursion for the year to the
Museum of Victoria. Traffic Education With some of the other grades in the upper school completing Bike Ed the Year 3's are introduced to Traffic Ed through the RACV. This gives a stepping stone to helping the students to become familiar with the dangers of walking, riding etc in a similar format that is covered in bike ed. Fitness Along with Physical Education the Year 3's participate in 3/4 sport once a week. This involves all the students in Year 3 & 4 being mixed into different groups to participate in a different sport each week. This program is designed to help develop the students' skill in this sport as well as for team building as each sport is team orientated. Some mornings the Year 3's participate in our early morning fitness program. This involves each student for the first 10 minutes of the day completing stretches and running on the oval in order to promote healthy practises. Year 3 Assembly Once a week the Year 3's try to get together for activities such as singing/performances or house team games. This is an important initiative undertaken to promote social interaction within the Year 3 level to allow students to not only get to know their peers but all of their teachers. Premiers Reading Challenge Many of our students have taken up the challenge to complete the Premiers' Reading Challenge. The Challenge aims to promote a love of reading. It is not a competition, but a challenge to each student. Those who complete the challenge like the previous years will have the opportunity to have their names printed in the paper and receive a certificate of completion. See http://www.education.vic.gov.au/prc/ for more information. Parent Helpers In Year 3 we will be asking for parent helpers to assist with Early Years Literacy and Numeracy. A note will be coming home soon advising of days and times required. Also we will need parents to assist with helping and testing the children on their times tables knowledge. We will be asking for volunteers to help laminate and cut up activities/open-ended games for our learning programs. National Assessment Program In May, as part of the National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN), national tests will be held in literacy and numeracy for all students in Australia at Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. These tests will replace the current State and Territory-based assessments (AIM) and have the support of all Education Ministers. See http://www.naplan.edu.au/ for further information.
