
The curriculum profile is a summary of the subjects taught
at each year level. The BNPS curriculum is organised so that English and
Mathematics receive the greatest time allocation within the school week.
The programs in the key learning areas reflect DEECD Guidelines, Victorian
Essential Learning Standards and support materials.
Beaumaris North Primary School provides a comprehensive
curriculum based on the Victorian Essential Learning Standards. The Victorian
Essential Learning Standards (VELS) describe what students are expected
to know and be able to do at their level, and how well they should know
and be able to do it.
There are six Levels to cover the range of schooling Prep
- Year 10. Level 1 covers the Prep year, Level 2 covers Years 1 and 2,
Level 3 covers Years 3 and 4, Level 4 covers Years 5 and 6, Level 5 covers
Years 7 and 8, and Level 6 covers Years 9 and 10. There are three core,
interrelated strands with domains as follows -
STRAND - PHYSICAL, PERSONAL AND SOCIAL LEARNING:
Domains: Health & Physical Education, Interpersonal
Development, Personal Learning & Civics and Citizenship
STRAND - DISCIPLINE BASED LEARNING:
Domains: The Arts, English - Reading, Writing, Speaking
& Listening, Humanities - Economics, Geography, History, Mathematics
- Number, Space, Measurement Chance & Data, Structure, Working Mathematically
, & Science
STRAND - INTERDISCIPLINARY LEARNING:
Domains: Communication, Design Creativity & Technology,
Information & Communications Technology & Thinking
To enhance student welfare, team planning, program delivery
and administration the classes of Beaumaris North Primary School are organised
into three units: Prep/1/2, 3/4 and 5/6.
There is a strong emphasis on shared planning and the integration
of program areas, which allows teachers to be flexible in the methods
and approaches used in the delivery of the curriculum.
"Curriculum News" is a booklet developed on a semester basis
and circulated to our School Community. This provides an overview of the
specific topics currently being studied by our students.
Significant features of the Curriculum are the Specialist
Teacher Programs which operate for all classes on a weekly basis- Physical
Education, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, LOTE (Japanese) and ICT
In addition to these specialists, other programs in operation
are: Early Years Literacy and Early Years Numeracy, Enrichment Programs,
Literature Programs, Speech Pathology Assistant Program, Art Installation
Program, Intensive Swimming Program for Prep - 6, Camping Program for
Years 4 - 6, Incursion and Excursion Program, Student Wellbeing Programs,
Instrumental Music Program, Choir and Percussion Enrichment sessions.
Regular curriculum policy and program reviews are conducted
through a schedule of minor and major evaluations. Beaumaris North Primary
School will maintain, develop and implement curriculum that enables all
children to achieve their potential in a stimulating and caring environment.
Beaumaris North PS is a Candidate School for the Primary
Years Programme (PYP). The Primary Years Programme is the Junior School
Programme for the International Baccalaureate. The aim of all IBO programmes
is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common
humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help create a better and
more peaceful world. At Beaumaris North Primary School you will see the
Attitudes and Learner Profiles in every classroom and displayed around
the school along with Essential Agreements on a variety of topics- including
expected classroom and playground behaviour.
